Eksteen Jacobsz describes the songwriting process behind 'From where you came'

I wanted a song where there was an improvisation-solo-sort of section and this was the result. The intro is very powerful and once again Wayne put a very good drum foundation down for me to play over.

I love the movement of the song as it sways and moves like a ship at sea going up and down through the swells and troughs.

Vocally there is a very nice octave play going down between my low and high vocal registers. The guitar solo came quite naturally and is very melodic but at the same time it locks in tightly with the rhythm section.

I also did lots of atmospheric slide guitar in the verses that give it a haunting feeling.

This song plays with country western / Casino (the movie) imagery of a guy who is led to a certain place to be executed by a gang. He warns that if you’re alone in this world things can get real tricky.

For me the best line is “and now they say you’ll be tripping down/ a flight of stairs to hell/ little do they know that you’ll be waiting/ feeling well”. It says that if you kill your enemy you might be rid of him only while you are still alive.

lyrics

Down at the road where your dreams ended
where fact replaced myth
they all stood still, dressed to kill
to await your return

And now they say you’ll climb down
a flight of stairs to hell
little do they know that you’ll be waiting
for them feeling well

I see you x3
I can see from where you came

Wind swept rain lashed I waited to thaw
a woman tried to make me warm
to be all alone in this forsaken world
is like being left out in the cold

they say you gotta move you gotta keep with the times
and know when to make your stand
don’t let it all ride on the throw of a dice
or you’ll be the one treading sand

And when it ends
it ends here
my friend
and when it ends
it ends right here
my dear
